The Fully Automated Fire House – The Fire Chief’s Dream

The 911 page is delivered to the Firehouse’s main control board and immediately and simultaneously the following happens:

> Control Unit – The firehouse alerting and control unit (FAC) is the base of the system. Turns on or off any electrical device in the firehouse: lights, alarms, PA amplifiers, and shut-down of kitchen stove. The FAC also sends a confirmation e-mail back to the dispatcher that the message was received.

> General Alarm – Wake up alarm goes off and is programmable to defer to PA system.

> Interior and Exterior Lights – Bedrooms, hallways, bathrooms, even closets can be programmed to go on for fire personnel and can be activated separately for the ambulance crew. Appropriate outer lighting goes on.

> Digital Sign – Visual alerting with a rolling 16 or 24 character message.

> Traffic Signal Control – Alerts traffic for quick apparatus exit.

> PA Amplifier – The PA unit fires up so the dispatcher is able to speak over the local radio network channel.

> Rip and Run Printer – The Okidata track feed printer spits out directions in full message and then scrolls out to the perforation so fire fighters can grab info on the run.

> Volunteer Force – Volunteers are alerted by pager with read out instructions. The same dependable American Messaging pager system relied on by First Responders worldwide displays messages within seconds of 911 alert.

> Mobile Data – Onboard Raven Alert Unit Displays Instructions/Directions – Dash mounted, new Raven Alert Units display up-to-the-minute instructions as the fire truck or ambulance races to the scene. Wall mounted Raven units in the fire house keep staff alerted to developments. Digital display also is activated.

> Wall Mounted Raven Alert – Digital read out displays message. Light flashes. Audio recites the digital message using text to speech conversion.

> Stove – The stove turns off automatically. We all know what happens in a hurry – fire crews typically do not want to fight one fire and then come back to another.

> Raven Logger – This unit attacheds to a computer maintaining a record of all alerts including time, cap code, and alert message.
